Matteo Ferroni
A pupil of Mario Botta, Matteo Ferroni earned his doctorate at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio and has been visiting professor in a number of universities worldwide. From the beginning, his work has been oriented toward the development of humanistic and civic-minded architecture, and to this end, in 2010, in Lugano Switzerland, he founded the eLand Foundation, through which he proposes the design of socially useful projects with an eye towards future sustainability. He has been architect of prestigious cultural ventures, such as Luca Rondoni’s “Santacristina Theater Center” and Malese singer Rokia Traoré’s center for theater arts “Passarelle,” and has explored the world of video art, performing with Ludovico Einaudi in a series of concerts in London and Rome on the “Nightbook Tour.” In 2010 he was awarded international accolades for having designed and implemented a mobile street lamp in dozens of villages in Mali, tansforming the quality of life in numerous rural communities of the country. The project, recognized as an innovative model of integration between technology, culture and nature, won honors in the City of Barcellona, was published by MoMa, was acquired for the collection of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology of Milan, and is permanently exhibited in the Biosphere of Montreal. Having recently returned to live in his native Umbria, he has undertaken the design of the urban reconstruction of the city of Norcia and its surrounding towns, an area devastated by seismic activity in 2016. Mr. Ferroni is author of the concept of the urban “Montessori District.”
